Guangzhou Emergency Management Bureau Conducts Emergency Public Opinion Response Drill for 2024
2024-08-06

On the afternoon of August 2nd, the Guangzhou Emergency Management Bureau organized a public opinion response drill titled "Building Social Consensus, Occupying the High Ground of Public Opinion" for the city's emergency management system.
The drill simulated several recent emergency incidents in our city, including mountain fires in Huadu District, a ship collision causing bridge deck fracture at Nansha Lixin Bridge, a tanker truck accident resulting in fuel tank fire, and urban waterlogging caused by severe convective weather in multiple districts. It covered six scenarios across four cases, simulating negative public opinion outbreaks, major accident public opinion, sudden surge in online attention, and press conferences. The drill featured random question drawing, media responses, and expert commentary, effectively testing the emergency management system's response measures and media communication capabilities at various stages of public opinion handling.
The Emergency Management Bureau stated that they will further enhance political awareness, deeply recognize the importance and urgency of public opinion response. They will strengthen responsibilities across all parties and improve three key capabilities in public opinion monitoring, handling and response: leveraging third-party institutions for real-time monitoring, timely addressing public concerns during disasters, and coordinating on-site handling with public guidance.
Over 50 experts including Professor Mai Shangwen from Jinan University's School of Journalism and Communication and Professor Li Weiquan from the Emergency Management College participated in the drill at the main venue, with district-level branches observing simultaneously.
